Dream Daters

         
      2/3 c  butter
      1 1/2 c  sugar
      1 t  VANILLA
      1    egg
      1 t  baking soda
      1/4 t  salt
      2 3/4 c  flour,divided
      34 c  milk
      1 c  dates,cut up
      1/2 c  nuts,chopped topping
      2 T  butter
      1 1/2 c  powdered sugar

Cream butter & sugar.  Add vanilla & egg.  Beat.  Sift dry
ingredients and add alternately with milk to butter mixture.

 Stir in dates & nuts using two tablespoons of the flour to coat the dates.
Drop by rounded teaspoonsful onto greased baking sheet.  Bake at 350
degrees for about 15 minutes.

Topping: Brown butter add sugar and enough hot water to make spreading
easy.  Frost cookies when cooled.
